Tufting FAQs
Got questions about the art of tufting? We've got the answers to get you started on your creative, yarn-filled journey.
What is rug tufting exactly?
Rug tufting is the art of creating textured designs by punching yarn through a fabric base using a tufting gun. It’s how many modern rugs are made—bold, fluffy, and full of personality. Whether you’re crafting shapes, lettering, or full illustrations, tufting combines creativity and craftsmanship into one colorful, satisfying process.
Is there a steep learning curve?
Not at all! The learning curve is surprisingly gentle. Most workshop participants get comfortable holding, aiming, and moving the tufting gun within the first 15 minutes of practice. Our experienced instructors stay by your side to help you master the rhythm.
Our classes provide hands-on instruction and assistance every step of the way, so you’ll be creating your rug with confidence.
What professional tools will I use?
You’ll get to work with a tufting gun, scissors, a rug trimmer, and—most importantly—your imagination!
Why is tufting so popular right now?
Tufting combines creativity, tactile satisfaction, and instant results. It’s a fun, modern way to make personalized home décor, and people love the hands-on, artistic experience.
Do I keep the rug I make?
Absolutely! You take home your finished rug at the very end of class—it’s a one-stop shop for a creative and rewarding experience.

If 2 people would like to each make separate rugs, separate bookings are required.
Can I bring a friend or family member if they aren't participating?
The tufting space can get tight and create an unsafe and uncomfortable tufting experience if we have too many people in our workshops at one time.
We don’t allow guests in addition to those participating in the workshop. We allow up to 2 people to participate under the same reservation making the same rug together.
Can I bring a small child or baby with me to the class?

We charge ‘per rug’, and it is a flat rate per booking for our workshop.

I have a large group, can we reserve an entire class time?
We believe that rug making is even more fun with your friends and family.

How can I tell if my design is too complex to make?

If you bring a design that is too complex, we’ll help you simplify it, or choose a design that may be easier.

*You can always ask AI to simplify your design
How many color options are there to choose from? Can I combine colors?
We have 36+ awesome colors to choose from to help you create your unique work of art!
You can combine 2 different colors to create a blended combination of the two.
Please note: Since we are using yarn, mixing colors does nit create a whole new color, but a speckled effect containing both separate colors.
I have a design in mind, what's the next step?
If you know what you want to make but don’t have an image of it, go ahead and search pinterest or google and add “coloring page” or “outline” afterwards for best results.
Once you have the image that you want to use for your design, save it to your camera roll so that we can project it to the frame during your scheduled workshop.
Do I have to use an image, or can I draw my design by hand?
There are many ways to set up your design to tuft it.
You can use an image to trace your design onto the frame. Most people use images from google or pinterest, but we often have guests who have created their own digital image to tuft.
If you want to be even more creative, you can always freehand your design directly onto the frame, or draw it out and project a picture of your drawing as well.
How will my image be displayed on the tufting frame to trace?
We use projectors to display your image on the tufting frame for you to trace.
You’ll want your design saved on your phone so that we can connect it to the projector to project the image.
Will I be required to simplify my design ever?
If your design seems too complicated and we think you may not be able to complete it during the scheduled class time, we may recommend that you simplify it.
Additionally, if you arrive to the workshop later than the scheduled start time, we will ask you to simplify your design in order to make sure you can finish in time.
What tips do you have for selecting a design?
Clear, defined, lines and designs are best. Designs/images with shading, smaller details, and lots of curves are generally more technical and more difficult. Check out our design selection page for more design tips.
Are letters difficult?
Letters are generally more difficult, and are not recommended because they may not turn out.
The only exception to this are large block or bubble letters such as those in logos and symbols.
We can help you decide how difficult and practical any letters may be when you arrive for your scheduled workshop.
Is there anything I should avoid?
Any details smaller than a half dollar coin and letters should be avoided. Very complex designs with lots of intricate details will be very difficult to tuft and may not turn out as expected.
Actual pictures or real life images are often difficult to trace, we recommend using AI to have it create an outline that is easier to trace.
